Repairing BMW CAS3+ Corrupted Data Using Autel IM508 / IM608
Requirements
- Autel IM508 or IM608 diagnostic tool
- XP400 Pro programmer (for IM508) or built-in XP400 (in IM608)
- Stable internet connection for server communication
- Compatible OBD and CAS module cables
Step-by-Step Repair Process
Step 1: Backup Existing Data
- Connect the Autel IM508 / IM608 to the OBD-II port on your vehicle.
- Power on the Autel device and select "Diagnostics" from the main menu.
- Go to BMW > Control Unit > Body > CAS3+.
- Backup Data:
- In the CAS3+ menu, select “Read Backup Data” to store the current data.
- Follow on-screen instructions to save this data.
Step 2: Remove and Access CAS Module (if required)
- Disconnect the battery before accessing the CAS module.
- Remove the CAS module from the vehicle.
- Connect the CAS module to the Autel XP400 via the appropriate CAS cable.
Step 3: Upload Data to Autel Server
- On the Autel main menu, go to “IMMO” (Immobilizer).
- Select BMW from the brand menu and choose “CAS3+” under the vehicle options.
- Choose “Data Processing” and then “Repair CAS”.
- Upload the Backup Data:
- Select “Upload to Server”. The tool will prompt you to confirm the backup file upload.
- After uploading, wait for Autel’s server to process the data and send back a repair file.
Step 4: Download and Reinstall the Repaired File
- When the repair file is ready, select “Download Repaired Data” in the same menu.
- Write the Repaired Data:
- Follow prompts to write the repaired data back to the CAS module.
- The Autel device will guide you through the reinstallation.
Step 5: Verify and Finalize
- Reinstall the CAS module in your vehicle, ensuring all connections are secure.
- Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition to the ON position.
- On the Autel device, select "Diagnostics" > "BMW" > "Control Unit" > "CAS3+".
- Run a diagnostic scan to ensure the CAS module is functioning correctly and that there are no error codes.
Additional Notes
- If you encounter an error or the module fails to communicate, you may need to repeat the steps.
- In cases of total key loss, retrieve the ECU ISN and perform CAS synchronization.
